Bruno Spengler unconcerned by Martin Tomczyk pairing

BMW’s Bruno Spengler is unconcerned with having Martin Tomczyk as his team-mate at Schnitzer for the 2014 DTM season.

Tomczyk, who won the DTM championship in 2011, will join the iconic BMW Schnitzer outfit for the 2014 DTM season, after having spent two seasons at the RMG BMW team with varied success.

In 2012, Tomczyk finished eighth in the championship and in 2013, he finished 19th.

In 2012, the year of BMW’s DTM comeback after 20 years, Bruno Spengler took the DTM title.

Despite having two champions in the team for the upcoming DTM season, Spengler insists he will not be changing his approach to how he goes racing in 2014.

“I’m just focussed on me,” Spengler told TouringCarTimes. “I don’t need any elements to push myself.

“I’m very motivated, and am always trying to optimise what I can; do the best I can in my training, do the best I can over a race weekend, and try and give the best information I can when doing that.

“It’s about pushing the team and BMW Motorsport forward, so I’m not analysing anything like this.”

Spengler also said there is no difference between having Tomczyk as his team-mate to Dirk Werner, and added he felt Werner fully pushed him during their time together at Schnitzer over the 2012 and 2013 DTM seasons.

For 2014, Werner moved to BMW’s sportscar programme in the North American-based United SportsCar Championship.

“Dirk is a very good driver and he’s very fast, so no, I wouldn’t say I wasn’t pushed.

“He was a very good team-mate and a very nice person to have around, so no, that wasn’t really the case.

“The biggest pressure is the one I always put on myself, so I don’t really need pressure from outside.”
