Jamie Green blames Augusto Farfus for race-ending clash

Audi’s Jamie Green has blamed BMW’s Augusto Farfus for the incident that saw Green retire after just one lap of the 2014 DTM Hockenheim season opener.

Up until his retirement, Green, now in his second season as an Audi DTM driver, had already endured a tough weekend after qualifying his Rosberg Audi 18th following a trip through the gravel.

During the race, Green had managed to make progress through the field from 18th to 15th, but damage sustained after contact with Farfus on the first lap saw him forced into retirement.

“I made some progress, actually quite a lot of progress in the first half of the lap,” said Green. “I was behind Farfus going into the Mercedes Arena – he was on the outside, I went to the inside, then at the last minute he came to the left and I hit him.

“I think to move around in the braking area like that isn’t fair and that’s why I ended up with the damage.”

Green also went on to admit he felt that the entire weekend had gone far from perfectly

“To be perfectly honest, this weekend didn’t run very smoothly from the beginning for me.

“The positive thing is the Audi is quick, but in free-practice we didn’t manage to work out an optimal set-up, and in qualifying I was quick but we had some problems and I went off the circuit.

“Starting from the back of the grid is always difficult, especially when people change their line in the middle of the pack.”
