Tomczyk and Farfus surprised at Oschersleben weather

BMW drivers Augusto Farfus and Martin Tomczyk were surprised at the weather at Oschersleben, despite scoring points with fifth and ninth respectively.

Farfus started on standard tyres, but the rain and the three Safety Car periods allowed the 2013 DTM runner up to finish fifth and the best of the BMW drivers.

“That was the craziest race I have ever driven in the DTM!” said Farfus after the race. “Then came the rain and the safety car periods. That allowed us to take a few risks with our strategy, which paid off.”

“It was good to finish fifth and pick up some good points from eighth on the grid.”

Tomczyk, who is now in his 13th DTM season described the race as “quite a mess” and he felt he could have finished on the podium as thanks to the pace of his Schnitzer run BMW M4 DTM.

“The race was quite a mess,” said the 2011 DTM title winner. ” My guys gave me a car with which I had a lot of fun, even in these difficult conditions, and it was one of the fastest in the field.

Despite having enjoyed his race, Tomczyk added he was disappointed to have would up ninth on a day when a top-three result was possible.

“At first it is hard to come to terms with the fact that we only ended up ninth, even though we had the pace to be up there on the podium.”
