Dani Juncadella tops first Norisring practice for Mercedes

Dani Juncadella went quickest for Mercedes in free practice at the DTM round at the Norisring, after setting a lap time of 48.567s.

His Mercedes stable-mate, Robert Wickens, was second, while Mattias Ekström was the best placed Audi driver in third. Audi then proceeded to lock out positions four to six, with Timo Scheider following his fellow double DTM champion in fourth.

Audi DTM rookie Nico Müller was fourth, ahead of his Rosberg Audi team-mate, Jamie Green who took four victories out of five around the 2.3km Nuremberg track between 2008 and 2012.

Pascal Wehrlein was seventh ahead of HWA Mercedes team-mates, Paul di Resta and Christian Vietoris, while Edoardo Mortara rounded out a top-10 that was covered by 0.224s.

BMW appeared to struggle on the circuit on which it almost took victory in 2012, with DTM series points leader Marco Wittmann the best placed driver of the Bavarian manufacturer in 15th.

Positions 17 to 23 were locked out by the rest of the BMW drivers, with Martin Tomczyk ending the session 23rd and last.
