Mercedes on top in second Norisring DTM practice

The Mercedes DTM squad once again set the pace at the Norisring in second practice, after Robert Wickens topped the timing screens ahead of 2013 DTM champion Mike Rockenfeller.

Following this morning’s first practice session where Wickens’ Mercedes stablemate, Dani Juncadella, went quickest with Wickens in second, Wickens set the pace with a lap time of 48.210s – 0.095s quicker than Rockenfeller’s Audi.

Wickens’ Mercedes team-mates Christian Vietoris and Pascal Wehrlein made it three Mercedes C Coupes in the top-four after rounding up the second session in third and fourth respectively.

Four-time Norisring winner Jamie Green was fifth in his Rosberg run Audi RS 5 DTM, while Paul di Resta rounded out the top six.

DTM drivers’ championship Marco Wittmann was the best placed of the BMW drivers in seventh, but the Munich-based manufacturer’s trying weekend continued as six of their cars failed to make it into the top-10.

Double DTM title winner Mattias Ekström was ninth, ahead of 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler’s BMW M4 DTM.

Vitaly Petrov was 23rd and last of all runners.
