Mercedes pair Wickens and Paffett aiming big for Norisring race
Norisring pole-sitter Robert Wickens and Mercedes team-mate, 2005 DTM champion, Gary Paffett are aiming big for tomorrow’s race at the Norisring.
Wickens took the second pole of his DTM career at the Norisring, with his first coming at the same circuit in 2013.
“We need to make maximum use of our excellent form this weekend and rack up as many points as we can,” said Wickens. I had been expecting us to be stronger here, but I’ve been surprised just how strong we actually are,” said Wickens after qualifying.
Meanwhile, Paffett, who qualified fifth was equally as enthusiastic and claimed that Mercedes will be aiming to score their second win of the 2014 DTM season tomorrow around the streets of Nuremberg.
“What a great day for Mercedes-Benz! We’ve been having a really tough season so far, but we got five cars in the top-six today,” said Paffett.
“We’ll be going for the win tomorrow, [but] personally speaking, I could certainly have done better than grid position five.
“All in all though, a super day for our team today.”
The two other Mercedes C Coupes in the top six, were Paul di Resta in second, Pascal Wehrlein fourth and Christian Vietoris sixth.
The two other cars of Dani Juncadella and Vitaly Petrov were 17th and 23rd respectively.
