Robert Wickens calls Norisring second DTM victory ‘a dream’
Robert Wickens has described the second victory of his DTM career as ‘a dream’ after winning at the Norisring in tricky wet/dry conditions.
Mercedes had expected to show an improved performance after a disastrous start to the 2014 DTM season.
Wickens took the second pole position of his DTM career at the Norisring (he scored the first at the same event in 2013), and come Sunday, took a dominant win to finish almost 24 seconds ahead of the Audi pairing of Jamie Green and Mattias Ekström.
“It’s like a dream come true for me,” said Wickens after the race. “I couldn’t have wished for a better day today.
“Our good pace in practice and my pole position came right out of the blue after a tough start to the season – thanks guys, you are all really great!”
Wickens added the weather also helped contribute to the victory, and drew a parallel with the maiden DTM career win he scored at the Nürburgring in 2013.
“Conditions were very difficult as was the case with my maiden DTM victory at the Nürburgring last year, but I’ve always done well in conditions like these.
“The weather was something else, though, and we never knew if it would go on raining or turn dry.”
