Nico Müller leads the field in second practice
Nico Müller set the fastest time in the second practice session celebrated this morning at Circuit Park Zandvoort. The 22-year-old from Audi Team Rosberg stopped the clock on a 1:31.607, over four tenths faster than the reference time in the first session. Mike Rockenfeller was second, followed by Edoardo Mortara and Jamie Green.
Sunny weather and a warm temperature of 17 degrees Celsius welcomed the drivers for the second practice session, which run smoothly and without interruptions. Searching the optimum setup for qualifying was on the cards, as the drivers sought to improve the grip on the dirty track.
Vitaly Petrov wasn’t able to participate in the session, as his mechanics were still repairing the damage sustained in his first practice crash. The Russian is expected to be in the qualifying session this afternoon, but hasn’t been able to make any progress on setup work.
Audi drivers dominated the session, blocking the first four places. Timo Glock (BMW Team MTEK) was the best placed for the Bavarian manufacturer in fifth, closely followed by Christian Vietoris, who managed to sneak his evolved Mercedes AMG C-Coupe DTM in sixth position, being the only driver from the three-point start contingent to make it into the top-10, despite having an off track excursion at the first corner.
Seventh place was for Adrien Tambay (Audi Team Abt), followed by Bruno Spengler (BMW Team Schnitzer), Mattias Ekström (Audi Team Abt Sportsline) and Timo Scheider (Audi Team Phoenix) in tenth.
2014 champion Marco Wittmann was 13th, almost six tenths off the pace, with his team mate in BMW Team RMG Maxime Martin in 15th, in a very close session, with the first 18 drivers in less than a second.
Qualifying session is due to start at 14:45 CEST.
