Maximilian Götz feels positive after his first race in the DTM
Mercedes Benz starts the 2015 DTM season increasing its operation to eight cars and featuring two rookies, Lucas Auer and Maximilian Götz. The German driver had a difficult first day of official competition at Hockenheim today.
The Mücke Motorsport driver has been with Mercedes for several years, with an extensive experience in GTs. He’s one of the manufacturer’s bets in order to promote young work drivers into official programs.
Götz had a promising start yesterday, being 13th overall in the rain with his Mercedes C63 DTM. However, things went sour today, with the number 84 driver qualifying in 20th position for the grid, and being 16th and last classified in the first race.
The newcomer, however, had a positive feeling about his debut so far. “It has been really fun to drive here in Hockenheim. The car feels good and I think we have a solid pace”, Götz said to TouringCarTimes. “Unfortunately, I got hit from behind in the race and, with the damage, I lost a lot of time. It was a shame because I think we could have had a good result.”
The new racing weekend format is keeping all DTM personnel on their toes, but Götz is adjusting well: “The work rhythm is very intense, but I’m settling well. Racing is the same here and in GTs, so I don’t feel there is a big difference. Mücke Motorsport is a very professional team and my team mate [Daniel Juncadella] is a great guy, and has helped me a lot to understand how the DTM and the car work. I’m really happy.”
The weekend has been difficult, but Götz still thinks he can finish the weekend on a positive note: “The forecast for tomorrow is rain and, in wet conditions, I was 13th yesterday. I think we can do well tomorrow and that the race can be good for us, because the car feels really good in the rain.”
