Audi Sport celebrates a ‘perfect day’

Audi Sport took a domineering victory today at the first race held at the Lausitzring, first assault of the second round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourewagen Masters Season.

The Ingolstadt manufacturer had already set the mark in the qualifying session, locking the first two rows of the grid. In the race, Miguel Molina, Jamie Green, Edoardo Mortara and Mattias Ekström put on a great show to dominate the race, leaving no chance to their rivals. The Spaniard led during three quarters of the race, when his tyres gave up and was overtaken by his team mates, with Green leading a 1-2-3-4 for Audi.

Jamie Green’s victory was particularly special since the Briton was suffering health problems, and his DRS didn’t work, making it more difficult to both attack Molina and defend himself from Mortara.

With this result, Audi remains unbeaten both in qualifying sessions and races this season, with an extended lead over their rivals in all three classifications. Also, today’s result sees Jamie Green back at the top of the drivers’ standings with 50 points, two more than Edoardo Mortara.

Dieter Gass, Head of DTM for Audi, thinks the result shows how hard the manufacturer has prepared for this season, and remarks the need to keep their feet in the ground: “You don’t get to see a one-two-three-four result in the DTM every day. That’s why our joy is even greater, especially at the Lausitzring, a track that we often had some difficulty with in the past. This shows that we really did good work in winter. But we’re keeping our feet planted firmly on the ground. Although things seemed to be pretty easy for us at the front today, the gap to the competition isn’t very large. The tides can turn very quickly in the DTM because the field is so close. Things can look completely different tomorrow.”

The Sunday agenda for the DTM starts with the warm up session at 9:50 CEST.”
