Jamie Green clinches second straight win at Lausitzring
Jamie Green secured a second straight DTM victory at Lausitzring despite losing the lead to Audi colleague Mattias Ekström at the start.
The Brit started from pole position but was out dragged into the first corner by Abt driver Ekström. The Swede pulled away initially, but Green reeled him in a couple of laps into the race and made his move into the first corner.
Ekström was able to respond a corner later and reclaim the lead, only for Green to get past again a lap later, that time keeping the lead for the rest of the race.
The race was a confirmation of Audi’s dominance of the Lausitzring weekend, claiming the top five positions in the second race. Miguel Molina took the final podium position in third, with Timo Scheider just six tenths of a second behind in fourth position.
Edoardo Mortara rounded off the top five, although with the stewards announcing after the race that he is being investigated for a potential infringement during a safety car session.
The safety car session was caused by Lucas Auer who went off into the gravel, beaching his car and retiring from the race just five laps from the end.
And there was further action on the last couple of laps with Bruno Spengler pushing Adrien Tambay into a spin. The Canadian Mercedes driver was penalised with a drive through penalty for the incident and dropped right down the order.
Mercedes’ Daniel Juncadella was the best non-Audi driver in sixth position with Christian Vietoris charging from 14th position on the grid to finish seventh. The top BMW driver was Maxime Martin in eighth position, close to 11 seconds from race winner Green.
The DTM continues in four weeks with the legendary Norisring race on June 28th.
