Marco Wittmann and Pascal Wehrlein test F1 cars
For the second day in succession, drivers from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters were present at the Red Bull Ring in order to participate in the Formula 1 tests taking place. Marco Wittmann drove for Toro Rosso, whilst Pascal Wehrlein was at work for Force India.
Wehrlein, Mercedes AMG F1 reserve driver, was at the wheel of the Force India VJM08, after testing for the Mercedes team yesterday. The German driver completed 132 laps, which included evaluation work of new aero solutions. Wehrlein was satisfied after the work done: ““I enjoyed today and it was great to do so many laps. It was also valuable for me to spend so much time in the car getting used to all the procedures in the cockpit – things like launch procedures and warming the tyres.”
Wittmann was on a long overdue day of testing, which came as a prize for winning last year’s DTM title. Today was the first time for the reigning champion to be at the wheel of a single seater in more than three years, and Wittmann was very impressed by the results obtained with the STR 10: “This has been an amazing experience for me. I was surprised at the power of the car; if I compare it to DTM, it’s got quite a lot more power! I enjoyed the whole day, which was trouble free, so I was able to do a lot of laps. I’m happy with my day, I hope the team is too. I would like to thank Red Bull, Scuderia Toro Rosso and BMW for giving me this great opportunity.”
At the end of the day, Marco Wittmann was fourth fastest, followed immediately by Pascal Wehrlein.
Both drives will head now for the Norisring, host of the third round of the 2015 DTM season.
