Jamie Green: “I feel like I didn’t extract the optimum”

Audi’s Jamie Green believes he did not get the maximum from his Audi RS5 DTM in Qualifying 1 at Zandvoort.

The Briton, who leads the 2015 DTM championship standings by 9 points from Audi stablemate and double DTM champion Mattias Ekström, will line up sixth as the best-placed driver for the Ingolstadt manufacturer.

Despite his position, Green feels he did not extract the maximum from his Team Rosberg prepared RS5 DTM in the 20 minute session.

“I feel like I didn’t quite extract the optimum,” said the Briton. “Unfortunately, on my second run, I didn’t have a clear outlap.

“Here at Zandvoort, that’s a problem with the sand because the tires no longer have the maximum level of grip.”

Despite missing out on pole by just 0.361s, Green is pleased with the changes the team made to his car between second Free Practice and qualifying.

“I’m pleased with the work in the team between free practice and qualifying. The balance was clearly better, and I was a lot happier in the car. You can only make the best of your possibilities and we have clearly heavier cars here than BMW.”

Miguel Molina was the second-quickest Audi driver in 10th, while Ekström qualified down in 19th.

BMW’s Augusto Farfus took pole for Race 1, ahead of stablemates, 2014 DTM champion Marco Wittmann, Antonio Felix da Costa, and Maxime Martin.
