Antonio Felix da Costa takes first DTM career pole at Zandvoort

BMW Schnitzer driver Antonio Felix da Costa has taken the first pole position of his DTM career for Race 2 at Zandvoort, ahead of BMW stablemates 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler in second, and Augusto Farfus in third.

Da Costa set a time of 1:30.483 to pip Spengler by 0.058 seconds.

The winner of yesterday’s Race 1, 2012 DTM title winner Marco Wittmann, made it a BMW 1-2-3-4 with fourth to continue to Munich-based manufacturer’s domination of the Zandvoort weekend.

Miguel Molina was the best and only Audi driver to make it into the the top 10 with fifth, while Pascal Wehrlein led the Mercedes charge in sixth, albeit 0.326s adrift of da Costa’s pole setting time.

Timo Glock, whose BMW M4 DTM ground to a halt at the end of the session qualified seventh, while Dani Juncadella was eighth, heading Mercedes stablemates Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris, who ended the session in ninth and 10th respectively.

Five BMWs and four Mercedes made it into the top 10.

Audi, running 25 kilogram weight penalties as a result of four wins from seven races since the start of their season, continued their difficult weekend at Zandvoort.

Behind Molina, Abt Sportsline’s Edoardo Mortara was the second best placed of the Audis in 12th, 0.425s away from pole sitter da Costa’s time.

DTM championship leader Jamie Green qualified 18th in his Audi RS5 DTM, while his nearest championship rival, double DTM champion Mattias Ekström was two places ahead in 16th.
