Lucas Auer receives grid penalty for Race 1
Mercedes AMG has received a grid penalty, for blocking BMW’s Marco Wittmann during the qualifying session. The Austrian had initially qualified in 23rd position.
The Stewards found Auer responsible for blocking the reigning champion, who was seventh fastest this morning in a very competitive session.
The ART Grand Prix driver received a 5-position drop for today’s grid, which means he starts from 24th and last position. The decision promotes Mattias Ekström to 23rd as a result.
Audi’s Miguel Molina was also investigated for blocking, with no further action taken against the Team Abt Sportsline driver. The Spaniard starts the race from ninth position on the grid.
The start of Race 1 was rescheduled to 14:45 CEST (GMT + 2), as the whole agenda was delayed due to the heavy fog this morning.
