Miguel Molina tops second free practice at the Nürburgring
Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline has dominated today’s on track action at the Nürburgring, host of the eighth and penultimate round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. After Mattias Ekström setting the pace this morning, team-mate Miguel Molina clocked the fastest time of the day in the afternoon.
Molina had a busy second free practice to set a best lap of 1:22.861 in his RS 5 DTM, completing 19 laps. Mercedes AMG’s Paul Di Resta was second, just 0.043 seconds behind the Spaniard.
Audi Sport, who is shedding an important amount of performance weight for this event, was in full force, with Jamie Green and Mike Rockenfeller following, just ahead of Mercedes’ Robert Wickens and Pascal Wehrlein. The standings leader was 0.152 seconds off the pace in his C63 DTM.
Adrien Tambay and Edoardo Mortara followed for Audi Sport, with local hero Christian Vietoris in ninth place. Mattias Ekström, who performed a race simulation during the first half of the session, closed the top ten, 0.235 seconds behind his team-mate and 0.083 slower than his main rival in the fight for the title, Pascal Wehrlein.
It was a dim day for BMW Motorsport, with the M4 DTMs having gained weight as result of their dominant weekend at Oschersleben. Winner at the Motorsport Arena Tom Blomqvist was fastest for the Bavarian manufacturer in 15th place, 0.423 seconds behind Miguel Molina. Top man for BMW in the championship, Bruno Spengler, was 21st fastest, already 0.768 seconds off the pace.
The DTM takes to the track tomorrow at 10:15 CEST (GMT + 2) for the qualifying session for Race 1.ia
