Maximilian Götz elated with best result in the DTM at the Nürburgring
Mücke Motorsport’s Maximilian Götz achieved his best in the DTM today at the Nürburgring with a fifth place finish in race one, defending a tough charge from Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller halfway through the race to cross the line as the third best placed Mercedes-Benz driver in the race behind Pascal Wehrlein and Gary Paffett.
The 29-year-old rookie followed up on his first points finish at Spielberg with fifth in the first race of the weekend, finishing just ahead of pole-sitter Lucas Auer in the sister Mercedes, fighting past a damaged Bruno Spengler as well as defending against a charge made by Phoenix Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller at the NGK-Schikane.
“It’s like a second home race for me. The first one is Norising, and the second one is the Nürburgring, so to reach points here is a pleasure,” said Götz to TouringCarTimes.
Götz has had a tricky season so far, as one of only three new drivers to the championship this year.
“As a rookie it’s never easy as every weekend I start from zero,” he explaind. “I had good pace in the first practice, we changed the car for the second one but I wasn’t satisfied, so I went back to the set-up from FP1 and we were sixth in qualifying and now fifth in the race.”
Looking ahead to the last three races, he’s hoping to carry the momentum and is aiming to replicate or go one better tomorrow than his performance from today.
“To score points again is on my list, and the podium is still a dream, we still have three races left, so hopefully that dream comes true.”
