Edoardo Mortara leads Nürburgring warm-up session

Audi Sport Team Abt’s Edoardo Mortara finished the 15 minute warm-up session fastest of all, two-tenths of a second faster than Christian Vietoris’ HWA Mercedes C-Coupé, while there was late drama for Gary Paffett, whose car ground to a halt.

Vietoris led the way through much of the session with his best time of 1:23.146, before Mortara pipped him in the final minutes with a time of 1:22.975 as the cars dialled in their cars for the qualifying session at 10:55 CET.

Miguel Molina finished the session third in his Abt Audi RS 5 DTM, with Audi Team Rosberg driver Nico Müller fourth quickest.

Jamie Green was fifth in the other Rosberg Audi, with Maximilian Götz sixth fastest in the Mücke Mercedes.

The best placed BMW was that of yesterday’s race winner Maxime Martin, the only BMW driver in the top ten, with Tom Blomqvist the next best placed BMW driver in 12th.

Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein was 16th fastest with Audi Abt driver Mattias Ekström just outside of the top ten in 11th position.

Gary Paffett finished the session 13th in his ART Mercedes, but was forced to stop on circuit with a mechanical problem, with smoke emanating from the inside of his C-Coupé.

The team has 1hr30 to resolve the issue before qualifying at 10:55 CET, with race two at 13:35.
