Jamie Green and Audi set the pace in first free practice
Audi Sport Team Rosberg driver Jamie Green was the fastest man around the Hockenheimring, host of the ninth and final round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. The Briton was the only driver to break the 1:33 barrier, echoing the form from the opening round of the season.
Gary Paffett had been the fastest man of the session in the Mercedes C63 DTM from ART GP, but Green beat his countryman with ten minutes on the clock to set a time of 1:32.849, 0.423 seconds faster than Paffett.
It was a session for the Britons, with BMW’s Tom Blomqvist in third, just 0.005 slower than Gary Paffett. Audi’s Edoardo Mortara was fourth, followed by team-mates Nico Müller and Mattias Ekström, 0.585 seconds off Green’s pace.
Maximilian Götz was seventh fastest for Mercedes, 0.620 seconds off the reference time, followed by BMW’s Maxime Martin.
Mercedes AMG’s Paul di Resta and BMW’s Augusto Farfus closed the top ten, with the Brazilian 0.777 seconds behind Jamie Green.
Standings leader Pascal Wehrlein was 19th, in a session where the drivers struggled to get the tyres to work. The ambient temperature was 8 degrees today, and chilli conditions are expected for the rest of the weekend.
Esteban Ocon stood in for sick Daniel Juncadella in Mercedes, being 24th and last, 1.559 seconds off the pace in his first ever official session.
