Maxime Martin takes pole position for Race 1
BMW Motorsport has taken the first pole position of the weekend at Hockenheim, host of the ninth and final round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. Maxime Martin set the fastest time of the weekend so far, leading the charge of the Bavarian manufacturer for the title.
Martin’s best lap of 1:32.637 was just 0.074 seconds faster than Audi’s Timo Scheider, who was second ahead of team-mate and Nürburgring winner Miguel Molina.
Paul Di Resta, in fourth position, was the fastest for Mercedes AMG, 0.129 seconds behind Martin. Fellow Briton Jamie Green was fifth, ahead of team-mates at Audi Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekström.
Tom Blomqvist was eighth for BMW, followed by Audi’s Edoardo Mortara and Mercedes’ Lucas Auer, who was 0.191 seconds off the pole position.
Gary Paffett was 12th, ahead of fellow Mercedes AMG driver and standings leader Pascal Wehrlein, who could clinch the title today. Mattias Ekström would have to be in the podium, with the Mercedes driver out of the points, to keep his championship options open for tomorrow.
The session was largely trouble free, with the DTM field being very competitive again, as only 0.894 seconds separated the whole grid.
The start for Race 1 is scheduled for 13:30.
