Bruno Spengler hopes to qualify better for tomorrow’s race

Bruno Spengler has started the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season as he finished the previous one: being the best driver for BMW Motorsport. The Canadian had a challenging race, but was the best finisher for the Bavarian manufacturer in Hockenheim.

“It was a very positive result in the race,” Spengler told TouringCarTimes. “Qualy was difficult because I encountered traffic, and starting 13th in middle of the pack is not the best, because lots of things can happen, you can get tangled in incidents and that. We had a good improvement during the race and overtook a few cars. Unfortunately got hit by Rocky from behind and had some damage, so I couldn’t do more. It was a good result for the team and some important points.”

“We had some issues with the tyres, as they lost effectiveness with the heat, plus my car was damaged, so I couldn’t get the best out of them, but we have a lot of data to be analysed tonight so we can do better in qualifying tomorrow,” concluded the Canadian driver from Team MTEK.

BMW got some technical allowances before the season start, with a reduced base weight and more rear wing. Asked about the impact of these changes in the car’s behaviour, Spengler said: “The weight doesn’t make a difference, it’s just 7.5 kilos and this is a very small amount. As a driver you don’t really feel it. For sure it goes in the right direction, but you don’t feel it, so I can’t say that the car is different for it.”

Bruno Spengler has this season a new team-mate at Team MTEK. Asked about the new partnership, the Canadian said: “Augusto is a great buy, and a very good and fast driver and great to work with. For sure, there are things I can learn from him and things he can learn from me, and in this way we can push each other, so it’s a good partnership.”
