Paul Di Resta and Mercedes AMG lead after Hockenheim
The first round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, held at Hockenheim, is already over, having delivered plenty of on track action and news. Mercedes AMG was strong on Saturday and dominated on Sunday, leaving the Baden-Wüttenberg track as leaders of all three championship tables.
Team HWA’s Paul Di Resta is the Drivers’ classification leader, after being fourth on Saturday and winning on Sunday, scoring 37 points this weekend. Fellow Mercedes driver Robert Wickens follows, with 28.
Audi’s Edoardo Mortara, winner on Saturday, is third with 25 points, four more than team-mate Nico Müller.
Maxime Martin is the best placed BMW driver, with 19 points. Team-mate Augusto Farfus is next with 18.
The teams classification is led by Team HWA II, which manages Paul Di Resta’s and Max Götz’ C63 DTMs, with 37 points.
Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, now formed by Edoardo Mortara and Mattias Ekström is second with 27. BMW Team MTEK, who looks after Bruno Spengler and Augusto Farfus, is the best placed team for the Bavarian manufacturer, in fourth place with 23 points.
Mercedes AMG leads the Manufacturers’ standings with 83 points, followed by BMW Motorsport with 72. Audi Sport is third with 47, after a difficult day on Sunday.
Next round of the DTM takes place in two weeks at the Red Bull Ring, from the 20th to the 22nd of May.
