Stewards issue penalties to António Félix Da Costa and Esteban Ocon after opening lap incident
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season opener held at Hockenheim this weekend was full of action and incidents in both races. BMW’s António Félix Da Costa was found responsible for the first lap incident that took out three cars, whilst Mercedes’ Esteban Ocon was fined for not leaving the steering wheel in place before walking away from his car.
In the opening lap, the Portuguese driver from Team Schnitzer went on the inside of Esteban Ocon, with the Frenchman pushing Bruno Spengler out of the track. The Canadian from BMW then collected Audi’s Edoardo Mortara and Jamie Green. The incident resulted in Ocon’s, Spengler’s and Green’s retirements.
The stewards have given António Félix Da Costa a 3-position drop on the grid for next race, to be held on Saturday the 21st of May in Spielberg.
After the incident, Esteban Ocon didn’t leave the steering wheel of his Mercedes C63 DTM in place, with the Frenchman from Team ART receiving a 1,000€ fine.
