Timo Glock in a positive mood after podium in Hockenheim

BMW Motorsport driver Timo Glock was beaming today after a strong performance in Hockenheim, host of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season premier. The German had a recovering race to finish in second place, being the best for the Bavarian manufacturer.

Glock had qualified in sixth place on the grid. After a few first eventful laps, and a discreet first stint, he managed to climb positions until reaching the second step of the podium.

“I had a good qualifying session and a good start, and also a very interesting battle with my team-mates Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus,” Glock said to TouringCarTimes. “The first part of the race was difficult, with all the cars together and the incidents between each other. The heat was a factor today, but things got better when I changed my tyres and they corrected the pressures. The car was much faster and I was able to fight for positions.”

Glock was one of the men to watch during the second part of the race, but the task was far from easy. “I wanted to move forward and knew I could have a better car after the pit stop, so I had to manage the number of DRS activations to make sure I would be able to use in the last laps.”

The Deutsche Post driver was also happy for having achieved a good result for the team: “I’m new to Team RMG this year, and we had a difficult test here a month ago, when I crashed my car and ruined the work for us, so I’m very pleased for my guys, to be able to bring a podium result to them.”

Today’s result was Glock’s first visit to the podium since his win in Oschersleben last year. Timo dedicated the result to his wife: “Above all, today it’s Mothers’ Day here in Germany, so it’s great to bring a trophy home for my wife.”

Timo Glock now lies fifth in the standings, with 18 points.
