Warnings galore after Race 1 in Spielberg
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters had a tidy race today at the Red Bull Ring, host of the second round of the 2016 season, with some minor incidents without consequences during the competition.
The stewards, however, were busy after the chequered flag, having to investigate other incidents and other allegations.
BMW’s António Félix Da Costa, who received a ‘drive through’ penalty for overtaking Audi’s Adrien Tambay under the yellow flags, also got a warning from the stewards for pushing Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta on the track.
The incident between Mercedes’ drivers Daniel Juncadella and Christian Vietoris was also resolved with a warning to the Spaniard for pushing the German driver.
Audi Sport Team Abt’s Miguel Molina also received a warning for being side to side with BMW’s Bruno Spengler under the yellow flags, an incident that had been reported to the stewards in the early stages of the race.
Under article 18.2 of the Sporting Regulations, a driver accumulating three warnings during the season will automatically receive a 5-place grid drop at the following race.
Last but not least, BMW Team RBM driver Maxime Martin was fined 1,000 Euros for not leaving the steering wheel properly attached in the parc fermé.
