Maxime Martin hopes to keep points momentum in Lausitzring

BMW Motorsport heads to the Lausitzring, host of the third round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, as the top manufacturer. Team RBM’s Maxime Martin is the only driver in the series to have scored points at each race this year, and he is targeting the top 10 this weekend

Martin was the most successful of the BMW DTM drivers in last weekend’s Nürburgring 24-hour race, crossing the line in fifth place overall. The Belgian has had a quiet season, scoring points in all races and is in fourth position in the standings, tied with fellow BMW driver Timo Glock, and just six points behind the leader. Martin hopes to overcome past problems at the Lausitzring to continue his streak: “Last year, things were going relatively okay for me towards the end of the race weekend. For this reason, I am looking forward to the weekend and will try to pick up a few points, as I have done at the first four races of the year.”

Marco Wittmann was the first man to win a race this year for BMW. The 2014 champion is mindful of the challenge the Lausitzring has been for the Bavarian manufacturer, but is keeping focused to maximise the weekend’s outcome: “The Lausitzring has not always been the happiest stomping ground for BMW, but I did secure the Drivers’ title there in 2014. For this reason, I also have very fond memories of this circuit.”

BMW leads the Manufacturers’ table with 203 points, 95 over Audi Sport and 110 more than Mercedes AMG. Last round at Spielberg was favourable for the Bavarian squad, but the 2016 DTM has been far from predictable. Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, is cautious in his expectations: “After the recent success, we obviously travel to the EuroSpeedway with a lot of momentum. However, the cards will be re-shuffled compared to Spielberg. That is just how it is in the DTM.”

The DTM field will be on track at 16:30 on Friday afternoon for the first free practice session.
