Audi Sport formally warned after pitlane incident

Audi Sport has received a warning from the stewards after the pitlane incident that saw a mechanic run over by Edoardo Mortara in today’s race held at the Lausitzring, host of the third round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season.

It was lap 32 of the race and Nico Müller and Edoardo Mortara, from Team Abt and Team Abt Sportsline respectively, were the last ones to come into the pits for their compulsory tyre change.

The Swiss made it in first, completed the pit stop and returned to the track. Moments later, it was Mortara’s turn.

The Italian came in and, as he was turning into his pit stop spot, one of Müller’s crew was hit by the rear of the Audi RS 5 DTM. The mechanic was taken to the medical centre for checks.

The incident was investigated by the stewards, who cleared Mortara from any wrongdoing. On the other hand, Audi Sport was warned for violating article 2.2.2 of Appendix H of the International Sporting Code, which establishes that only required personnel can access the pitlane just before work is needed in a car, and must retire as soon as the work is completed.

The stewards have also stated that the warning goes to the team and that Edoardo Mortara had no fault in the incident.
