Chris Vietoris dominates final free practice at Lausitzring

Mercedes AMG driver Christian Vietoris posted the fastest time in this morning’s third and final free practice session held at the Lausitzring, host of the third round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season.

Vietoris, whose C63 DTM is managed by Team Mücke, racing at home this weekend, set a best lap of 1:17.284, just 0.003 seconds ahead of Audi Sport’s Jamie Green, who was the fastest man out on track for the Ingolstadt manufacturer.

Fellow Audi drivers Nico Müller and Mattias Ekström followed, with the Swede only 0.033 seconds off the pace. Vietoris’ team-mate Lucas Auer was next, just 0.080 seconds behind the German driver. Mike Rockenfeller was sixth for Audi.

BMW Motorsport’s only drivers in the top 10 came next, with standings leader Marco Wittmann in seventh position, followed by Maxime Martin. The Bavarian manufacturer struggled with balance and general lack of grip.

Mercedes AMG Team ART driver Esteban Ocon was ninth, with yesterday’s winner Miguel Molina completing the top ten for Audi, 0.241 seconds behind Vietoris.

The session was again very competitive, with the first 22 drivers separated by less than 0.7 seconds. There were no incidents during the running of the last free practice session.

The next on track appointment for the DTM is the qualifying session for Race 2, scheduled for 11:30 CEST.
