Jamie Green aiming to win at the Nürburgring

The seventh round of the 20169 DTM season takes place this weekend at the Nürburgring this weekend. Audi Sport holds an impressive record at the Eifel track, and one that hopes to improve this time around.

The Ingolstadt manufacturer counts nine victories at the Nürburgring, the most recent one last year at the hands of Miguel Molina. Another special record could be in store this weekend: a victory from either Mattias Ekström or Edoardo Mortara would mark Team Abt Sportsline’s 50th victory in the DTM.

Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green is the best placed man for the Ingolstadt manufacturer in the Drivers’ standings, in third place with 104 points, 26 shy of leader Marco Wittmann. The Briton had a difficult weekend in Moscow two weeks ago, but is confident of obtaining a good result at the Eifel: “I’ve never won in the DTM at the Nürburgring before. I’d like to change that and I think we’ve got good chances of making that happen. Our car should be competitive at the Nürburgring. Following the disappointment at Moscow, we need to regain our form and score as many points as possible.”

Edoardo Mortara is also in the fight for the title, four points behind Green. The Team Abt Sportsline is looking forward to the weekend and hopes to continue his particular good record at the Nürburgring, keeping his options to the final crown: “I had many good results there in the past and have been on podium several times. I feel comfortable on the track and am confident that we’re going to deliver a good race. We’ve still got title chances, it’s make or break now.”

Audi Sport currently lies second in the Manufacturers’ table with 390 points, 46 behind BMW Motorsport. The RS 5 DTMs will start the weekend with a base weight of 1,117.5 kg.

Dieter Gass, Head of DTM for Audi Sport, expects a tough competition at the Eifel track, but is ready for an important weekend in the championship battle: “The championship race is intensifying. Everything is still open, and our aims are unchanged. We’re expecting a balanced field at the Nürburgring. And, obviously, we have to be prepared for anything in terms of weather there.”

The DTM action at the Nürburgring kicks off at 17:00 on Friday afternoon for the first free practice session.
