Mattias Ekström excluded from Race 1 at Nürburgring
Audi Sport driver Mattias Ekström has been excluded from the results of today’s DTM race at the Nürburgring after failing to proceed to the weighing area after his retirement.
The Swede retired from the race following contact with Mercedes AMG’s Maximilian Götz, and sustained damage in his RS 5 DTM with seven laps to go. Ekström had completed enough of the race distance (over 75%) in order to appear in the final classification in 23rd and last position.
After his retirement Ekström didn´t proceed to the weighing area, which is required by Article 26.16 of the sporting regulations. The stewards of the race have thus excluded the Swede from the results, though his penalty doesn’t have any affect on the points scored in today’s race.
