Mercedes and BMW gain weight for Race 1
The qualifying session for Race 1 has already taken place this afternoon at the Nürburgring host of the seventh round of the 2016 DTM season, with Lucas Auer having been the fastest man with a time of 1:22.900, although will start sixth because of a grid penalty.
The Austrian also clocked the best ideal lap for Mercedes AMG, with a time of 1:22.897. Marco Wittmann set the best ideal time for BMW Motorsport with 1:22.922, with Jamie Green doing the honours for Audi Sport with a theoretical time of 1:23.051.
These results place Mercedes and BMW within the first 0.1%, with Audi Sport over 0.1% but below the 0.2% from the best ideal lap. Thus, the Mercedes C63 DTMs and the BMW M4 DTMs gain 2.5 kg for Race 1, with a new base weight of 1,130 and 1,117.5 kg respectively. The Audi RS 5 DTMs lose 2.5 kg, with a new base weight of 1,115 kg.
The start of race 1 is scheduled for 14:58 CEST.
