Jamie Green disappointed with drive-through decision

Audi Sport driver Jamie Green had a day to forget at the Nürburgring, with the Briton not scoring any points towards his championship charge after a drive-through penalty sent him to the bottom of the classification.

On lap 24 of the race  Green, who had been running in sixth position, was exiting the pit lane after his compulsory tyre change and made contact with Mercedes AMG’s Gary Paffett who was coming up to Turn 1, with the Team ART driver spinning and losing several positions.

The stewards took one lap to decide that Jamie Green had been responsible for the incident, handing him a drive-through penalty.

The Briton felt there weren’t any other options for him at that point in the race: “I was just leaving the pits. I was there and I thought he would leave me, at least, a car width” Green said to TouringCarTimes. “Gary even said ‘sorry’ to me. But I received the drive-through and that was the end of my race.”

The worst part for Jamie Green was not scoring any points, now falling 51 points behind leader Marco Wittmann with two rounds and four races to go. The Briton was philosophical about it: “There is no point in getting upset, there is nothing we can do. We have to look at the positive side, which is that we have a competitive car and can do strong races. In this sense, I look forward to Budapest, and I hope we can do better there.”

Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi Sport, said: “Jamie is now a big gap behind Wittmann and that makes things a bit more difficult for him. But I wouldn’t write him off, we have seen how everything can change in a good weekend so, for us, Jamie is still in the fight for the title.”
