Nico Müller leads in final practice in Nürburgring
Audi Sport driver Nico Müller was the fastest man on the third and final practice session held this morning at the Nürburgring, host of the seventh round of the 2016 DTM season.
The German driver from Team Abt set a best lap of 1:23.375 in the closing stages of the session, slower than Saturday’s sessions. Conditions are expected to be warmer than yesterday.
Mercedes AMG’s Gary Paffett was second after leading most of the session, 0.151 seconds of f the pace. BMW’s Maxime Martin also got ahead with seven minutes to go, but was third in the end, 0.230 seconds behind Müller.
Audi drivers Edoardo Mortara and Timo Scheider were next in the classification, followed by Mercedes AMG’s Lucas Auer in sixth position, with the Austrian completing another good session.
The rest of the top ten was completed by Audi drivers, with Mike Rockenfeller in seventh place, 0.381 seconds off the pace, followed by Miguel Molina, Mattias Ekström and Adrien Tambay, 0.623 away from the top.
Edo Mortara was the only title contender to get a good result in the session. Yesterday’s winner Marco Wittmann was 12th, followed by Audi Team Rosberg driver Jamie Green. Robert Wickens stopped on track half way through the session, being unable to rejoin.
Qualifying for Race 2 is scheduled for 12:50.
