Marco Wittmann and BMW lead the DTM after Nürburgring
The seventh round of the 2016 DTM season at Nürburgring proved a profitable one for BMW Motorsport. The Bavarian manufacturer left the Eifel track leading all three championships, and having increased their advantage.
Marco Wittmann continues to lead the Drivers’ table after seven rounds with 170 points, 33 over Audi Sport’s Edoardo Mortara, who is now the German’s closest rival in the fight for the title.
Both Robert Wickens and Jamie Green had a disappointing weekend, with the Canadian only managing to score two points and with the Briton being third on Saturday but out of the top ten on Sunday. The Mercedes AMG driver has now 120 points, with the Team Rosberg driver accounting 119. Whilst both still have mathematical options to the title, they seem to be further away now with only two rounds left.
BMW Team RMG leads the Teams’ table with 228 points, nine over Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. The best formation for Mercedes AMG is Team HWA I, in sixth position with 126 points.
BMW Motorsport also had the best overall weekend among the manufacturers, leading the championship with 521 points, 57 ahead of Audi Sport. Mercedes AMG struggled again, an lies third, 92 points behind the Bavarian manufacturer.
The next round of the 2016 DTM season takes place at the Hungaroring from the 23rd to the 25th of September.
