António Félix Da Costa to leave DTM at the end of the season

Team Schnitzer driver António Félix Da Costa will end his involvement in the DTM at the end of the current season, while remaining a part of the BMW Motorsport family, focussing on Formula E and GT Racing.

This summer, Da Costa was confirmed as one of the two official drivers for the Andretti Formula E team for the forthcoming 2016-2017 season, which starts in Hong Kong on October 9th.

The Portuguese driver made his DTM debut in 2014 with Team MTEK, before switching to Team Schnitzer for 2015. Da Costa would take his first and only pole position and win in the series that year at the Circuit Park Zandvoort.

António Félix Da Costa is grateful to BMW for his time in the DTM.

“I’m extremely happy to have represented BMW in the DTM for the last three seasons in a championship that is super competitive and requires a lot of skill,” he said. “However, this championship requires full-time focus, so I have decided to put all my efforts into Formula E and am happy to be part of a future international project for BMW.”

BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt praised the Team Schnitzer driver: “António’s time with BMW in the DTM may be drawing to a close, but we will continue to work with him. I am very happy about that, as he is very talented and is one of the best racers I know. During his relatively brief stint in DTM, he managed to win a race and not many drivers can claim this.”

Da Costa is the second driver from BMW to announce his farewell to the DTM, after his Schnitzer team-mate Martin Tomczyk confirmed his retirement two weeks’ ago.
