Nico Müller moves on top in final moments of FP2

Audi Sport driver Nico Müller set the fastest time in the second free practice session held this morning at Hockenheim, taking over from the dominance shown by BMW in the last part of the session.

The Swiss driver set a best lap of 1:32.943 in the cool conditions, with the track temperature being only 17C. He was followed by the BMW contingent formed by António Félix da Costa, Bruno Spengler, Augusto Farfus and Marco Wittmann, with the standings leader being just 0.304 seconds off the pace.

René Rast, who replaces Mattias Ekström, completed another good session for Audi Sport in sixth position, ahead of title contender Jamie Green.

Gary Paffett was the best and only Mercedes in the top ten in eighth position, 0.380 seconds behind Müller. Miguel Molina and Mike Rockenfeller completed the top ten for Audi.

Drama ensued for title contender Edoardo Mortara, with the Italian having problems with his pedals and needing to change his pedal box half way through the session. The Team Abt Sportsline could only manage 14th position in the end, 0.445 seconds off the pace.

Audi’s Adrien Tambay and Mercedes’ Felix Roseqvist went wide at Sachs Kurve, with both being able to recover without assistance. Team HWA’s Daniel Juncadella received a warning for crossing the white line at the pit exit.

The DTM goes back on track for qualifying for Race 1 at 12:40 CET.
