All Audi top four in final practice, as Nico Müller leads ahead of Edoardo Mortara

Audi threw down the gauntlet ahead of today’s critical final race of the 2016 DTM season, as Nico Müller led the way ahead of championship contender Edoardo Mortara and another two RS 5s of Mike Rockenfeller and René Rast.

The session was slightly delayed after heavy fog disrupted the support race timetable. In the session, Müller’s best lap time was 1:32.850, just over a tenth of a second ahead of Edoardo Mortara.

António Félix Da Costa was the fastest of the BMWs in fifth place, with Audi’s Jamie Green in sixth, just over three tenths of a second off the pace.

Paul Di Resta was the fastest Mercedes in seventh, followed by BMW’s Tom Blomqvist and Audi driver Timo Scheider, now confirmed to be taking part in his final DTM race this weeekend. Gary Paffett completed the top ten for Mercedes, just over half a second from Müller’s time.

The BMW M4 DTMs generally struggled with grip in the cold temperature, with championship leader Marco Wittmann way down in 17th position.

Qualifying for Race 2 is scheduled for 12:55 CET.
