Eric Kwong leads Elegant 1-2 in wet Zhuhai Race 2

Eric Kwong won the second race of the day at the Zhuhai International Circuit, with the Elegant Racing Team showing strong pace in the wet conditions in their SEAT Leóns, with Kwong finishing ahead of team-mate Alex Liu

The two Viper Niza SEAT Leóns of Bill O’Brien and Douglas Khoo were to start on the front row, but Khoo relinquished his position after driving into the pits on the formation lap.

O’Brien had a good start, while WS Lai was able to move his R Engineering Honda up to second before he was soon passed by Jasper Thong’s Phoenix Audi RS 3.

O’Brien led for half a lap before slipping off into the gravel, with Thong almost immediately sliding his Audi and handing Lai the lead in the Honda.

Alex Liu and Eric Kwong had more pace than the pair of them, and soon sliced their way through, with Kwong leading ahead of Liu with Lai down to third.

While Jasper Thong continued to struggle in the conditions, older brother Shaun Thong was on a charge in the second Audi, passing Abdul Kaathir’s Honda at Turn 1 with heavy use of his lights on lap five, almost scaring the Honda out of the way in the tricky conditions.

Thong would go on to catch WS Lai and move onto the final step of the podium, but was unable to close down on the leading Elegant SEAT pair, with Kwong winning the race six seconds clear of team-mate Liu (pictured).

The next round of the TCR Asia Series is the Bangsaen Grand Prix in Thailand on July 2nd.
