Mike Rockenfeller tops first practice at Lausitzring

Audi Sport driver Mike Rockenfeller was on top form to be the fastest driver in the first free practice session held at the Lausitzring this afternoon, followed by team-mate Mattias Ekström.

The Team Phoenix driver clocked a best lap of 1:17.278, 0.097 seconds ahead of the Swede from Team Abt.

Robert Wickens was third and best for Mercedes AMG, with Audi’s Jamie Green in fourth position. Next was standings leader Lucas Auer, 0.328 seconds off the pace.

Nico Müller, René Rast and Loic Duval followed for Audi, with the only rookie in the series setting a best lap 0.696 seconds slower than his team-mate at Phoenix.

Paul Di Resta and Gary Paffett completed the top ten for Mercedes AMG, with the latter 0.745 seconds away from Rockenfeller.

Tom Blomqvist was fastest for BMW Motorsport in 11th place, just 0.011 seconds away from Paffett, with regining champion Marco Wittmann in 13th position.

Action at the Lausitzring resumes tomorrow morning at 8:40 for the second free practice session.
