BMW drivers hopes to turn around difficult season at Hungaroring

BMW Motorsport heads to the Hungaroring for the third round of the DTM season, with Timo Glock as the top man for the Bavarian manufacturer. The team RMR driver lies eighth in the standings after a difficult start of the season for BMW.

The German driver has fond memories of the Hungaroring and is looking forward to put on a good show this weekend: “Budapest is always a highlight for me and I have always recorded good results there. I claimed my first Formula 1 podium at the Hungaroring. We drove fast in the DTM there last year. I had a lot of fun at the Big Show Run on 1st May and I hope that we got plenty of fans looking forward to the DTM weekend.”

The season so far has also been very difficult for reigning champion Marco Wittmann. The team RMG driver visited the podium at Hockenheim, but had a dismal weekend at the Lausitzring. Wittmann, who won at the Hungaroring back in 2014, hopes to step up this weekend and relaunch his bid for the top positions: “I really like the Hungaroring. It has a lot of tricky corners and is a big challenge for drivers. This year, we need to improve our race pace and put our opponents under pressure.”

BMW Motorsport is third in the manufacturers’ table with 64 points, a whopping 123-point disadvantage to leaders Mercedes AMG. The six M4 DTMs will start the weekend with a performance weight of 1,120 kg.

Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, expects his team to come up to speed with their rivals at the Hungaroring: “This is the first stop outside Germany this year. Although we have not managed to win any of the first few races of the season, we still feel the BMW M4 DTM is capable of winning. Our main focus is now on ensuring that we consistently exploit this potential, not only in qualifying but also in the races themselves, thus allowing us to achieve the kind of results we are after.”
