Audi gain weight for tomorrow after strong first race at Hungaroring
Audi Sport have had their base performance weight increased after being the most competitive team in today’s Race 1 at the Hungaroring.
The Ingolstadt-based team had an average best lap during the race of 1:38.456, calculated under the new performance weight regulations, starting this weekend. BMW had the second fastest average lap of 1:39.084, with Mercedes AMG in third with 1:39.183.
As both BMW and Mercedes were over a 0.2% slower than Audi, the six RS 5 DTMs will have a 5-kg weight increase, with a new weight of 1,120 kg. Both the M4 DTMs and the C63 DTMs will lose five kg, resulting in new base weights of 1,115 and 1,125 kg respectively.
“We had a good qualifying, a good start, all seemed to be fine,” Dieter Gass told TouringCarTimes. “We were about to react on the early stops of Bruno Spengler and Paul Di Resta, but the safety car was called out and that was it for us. It’s very annoying because we will now get more weigth for tomorrow. We need to focus and have a good qualifying, but will be difficult to get good results to one lap runs being heavier. We will do our best and see where we are.”
The performance weights for Race 2 at the Hungaroring are as follows:
Performance weights for Hungary Race 2
Manufacturer – Car- Base – Change– Final
Mercedes AMG – C63 DTM – 1,130 – -5kg + 1,125kg
Audi – RS 5 DTM – 1,115 – +5kg + 1,120kg
BMW – M4 DTM – 1,120 – -5kg + 1,115kg
