Maxime Martin cleared as Loïc Duval is penalised in post-race investigation
BMW Motorsport driver Maxime Martin has escaped disciplinary action from the stewards after stopping his M4 DTM on the track during today’s race at the Hungaroring.
The Belgian was involved in a first lap collision with fellow BMW driver Tom Blomqvist, after a separate incident between the Briton and Mercedes’ Maro Engel. Later, on lap eighth, Martin stopped his car on the track just before Turn 3, with the driver being reported to the stewards for unsporting behaviour.
After speaking to the driver and reviewing video evidence, the stewards found no fault with Martin’s action.
In a separate decision, Loïc Duval was found responsible for the incident in which the Frenchman hit Audi team-mate Nico Müller, with the Swiss driver collecting Mercedes’ Lucas Auer who spun. In the aftermath, BMW’s Augusto Farfus was also collected by Duval.
The Team Phoenix driver received a 30-second time penalty added to his race time. Duval had already retired to the pits during the last lap because of an incident with BMW’s Marco Wittmann, finishing in 15th place, so the stewards’ decision doesn’t affect the final race positions.
