Paul Di Resta emotional after eighth career win

Paul Di Resta scored an important victory at the Hungaroring today, the first of the season and eighth of his DTM career, after a key strategy call.

The Scot started the race from 13th position on the grid: “The car was great in qualifying, but I was a bit compromised by other cars,” said di Resta. “It wasn’t an ideal result and, when you are in that position, you are pushed into an aggressive strategy to make the most of it.”

The Mercedes driver performed a strong start and made his way up through the field, much thanks to the strategy of the team.

“The start was ok and I avoided all the trouble in front of me. We had our strategy and we weren’t sure of how it was going to pan out, as Audi has been very good in long runs. We were able to manage the race as we wanted. We made an early pit stop and, when I saw the safety car in front of us, I knew we were in a good place,” said the Team HWA driver.

“The team made the decision for me, I have to give it to them, they made the right call and I’m very happy to get this result and being able to give them something back, something to thank them for their good work. We had a similar strategy than in Hockenheim, which didn’t work back then, but worked for us here,” added Di Resta.

“This result allows us to restart our season and continue to battle, now with new options for the championship. When you get to race 5 of the year you need to be clear about your position, so this result comes at the right time for us. We have now to prepare for tomorrow and do our best to continue getting good results and points,” said the Mercedes driver.

The victory comes just a few days after the birth of Di Resta’s daughter Perla: “I want to dedicate this result to my daughter and wife. I won the first race after the birth of my son and now I win just after her arrival. So maybe the lack of sleep is a good thing for me!” the Scot joked.
