Bruno Spengler tops first free practice at the Norisring
BMW Motorsport was the dominant manufacturer in the first free practice session at the Norisring this afternoon, with Bruno Spengler setting the fastest lap time of the session.
The Canadian was fastest of all with a time of 47.971 seconds, followed by Audi driver Mattias Ekström, 0.077 seconds behind. BMW drivers from Team RMR Tom Blomqvist and Timo Glock followed, with the German drivers just over two-tenths of a second off the pace.
Nico Müller was next up for Audi Sport, with Mercedes’ drivers Gary Paffett and Robert Wickens sixth and seventh, the Canadian seconds behind his countryman.
Augusto Farfus and Maxime Martin followed in their BMWs, with 2013 champion Mike Rockenfeller completing the top ten, just under four-tenths off the pace.
The championship front-runners were further down the order, with Audi’s Jamie Green and René Rast in 11th and 13th positions respectively. Mercedes AMG’s Lucas Auer was 14th, just half a second behind Spengler.
The next session is the second free practice session scheduled for 8:45 CET.
