Lucas Auer fastest in final practice at Norisring

Mercedes AMG driver Lucas Auer was the fastest driver in the third and final DTM practice session at Norisring this morning.

The Austrian from team HWA set a fastest lap of 47.632, followed by Audi drivers René Rast, Nico Müller, Mike Rockenfeller and Jamie Green, with the Briton just 0.147 seconds off the pace.

Yesterday’s winner Bruno Spengler was sixth and fastest of the BMW drivers, with Mercedes’ drivers Robert Wickens and Gary Paffett next, separated by just two thousandths of a second.

Mattias Ekström took his Audi RS 5 DTM to ninth position, with BMW’s Maxime Martin completing the top ten, just over two tenths off Auer’s time.

The session was held under cloudy skies, with rain forecasted for 12:00 CET, the time of the qualifying session for Race 2.

Once again, the differences between drivers were minimal, with the entire field separated by just 0.691 seconds.
