Jamie Green fastest in first practice at the Moscow Raceway

Audi Sport driver Jamie Green set the fastest time in the first free practice session at the Moscow Raceway this afternoon. Fellow Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller was, however, the sensation of the session, managing third despite injuries to his left foot.

Green clocked a best lap time of 1:29.287, pipping Mercedes AMG’s Gary Paffett by just 0.050 seconds with seven minutes to go. Rockenfeller was just 0.075 seconds off the pace, racing with an orthopaedic shoe to protect his broken foot.

Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta led the initial stages to finish fourth, but was reported to the stewards for an unsafe release as the Scot was heading out for his final stint. He finished just over a tenth from Green’s time, followed by Augusto Farfus’ BMW.

Standings leader Mattias Ekström was sixth in his Audi RS 5 DTM, with Mercedes driver Edoardo Mortara a competitive seventh, just three and a half tenths off the pace.

Audi drivers loïc Duval and Nico Müller followed, with reigning champion Marco Wittmann compelting the top ten, just under half-a-second off Green’s time.

The free practice session was followed by slow zone testing and practice starts for all drivers on the main straight.

DTM action resumes tomorrow at 10:50 CET for Free Practice 2.
