René Rast leads Audi top three in second practice at the Moscow Raceway

Audi Sport continue to dominate the weekend at the Moscow Raceway, with René Rast setting the pace in this morning’s second free practice ahead of qualifying.

Rast set a best lap time of 1:27.604, finishing ahead of fellow Audi drivers Mattias Ekström and Nico Müller, with the Swiss driver just over two-tenths of a second off the pace.

BMW driver Timo Glock stopped it being an all-Audi top five, finishing in fourth, followed by Loïc Duval and yesterday’s pace-setter Jamie Green.

Gary Paffett and Lucas Auer followed for Mercedes AMG, the only drivers from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer to make it into the top ten, with Auer over seven-tenths of a second off the pace.

Augusto Farfus and Marco Wittmann completed the top ten for BMW Motorsport, with the reigning champion three quarters of a second behind Rast.

The session was largely trouble-free, with only Rast and Mercedes’ Robert Wickens have a few minor off-track excursions, managing to recover by themselves.

René Rast, who is competing at the Moscow Raceway for the first time in his career, said: “I have a very good feeling. I learned a lot from yesterday because, obviously, I didn’t know the track. Still, we have to improve the car in some areas, but we can only be happy.”

Qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 12:40 CET.
