Tom Blomqvist takes his second pole of the season at Moscow Raceway

BMW Motorsport driver Tom Blomqvist took his second pole position of the season at Moscow Raceway, leading Bruno Spengler in an all-BMW front row for this afternoon’s Race 2.

Audi’s Jamie Green crossed the white line when exiting the pit lane, receiving a warning. As this was the third for the Briton this season, Green received a five-place grid drop penalty for this afternoon’s race. Mercedes driver Paul Di Resta also received a 750-euro fine for speeding in the pit lane.

The drivers took to the track with barely five minutes left on the clock for their final runs. Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Loïc Duval improved their personal laps, but it was di Resta, Spengler and Blomqvist that continues on to take the top spots, with the Briton taking his second pole position of the season with 1:26.518.

Spengler was second in the end, 0.061 seconds behind his team-mate and just three-thousandths ahead of Mattias Ekström.

Rene Rast was fourth, over two-tenths off the pace, followed by di Resta. Timo Glock was sixth, followed by fellow BMW drivers Marco Wittmann and Maxime Martin, wih the Belgian almost four-tenths off the pace.

Duval was ninth for Audi, with Gary Paffett placing his Mercedes in tenth, nearly six-tenths off Blomqvist’s time.

Green was 11th in the end which, with his penalty, will put the Briton on 16th position for this afternoon’s grid.

The start of Race 2 is scheduled for 14:48 MSK, 13:48 CET.
