Jamie Green feels more was up for grabs at Zandvoort
Audi Sport driver Jamie Green drove a charging race today at Zandvoort to finish in fifth position from 15th on the grid. Still, the Briton thinks he could have climbed higher in the classification.
Green was one of the worst hit drivers in today’s qualifying, when heavy rain fell over the track as the Team Rosberg driver was starting his second attempt.
The Briton changed tyres early in the race. He recovered to fifth and was let through by fellow Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller when the German ran out of DRS activations. Despite his best efforts, Green couldn’t challenge BMW’s Maxime Martin’s third place, giving Rockenfeller the position back at the end of the race.
“Today was tricky, as it’s quite difficult to overtake here, from Turn 3 to 9 there is no chance,” Green said to TouringCarTimes. ”You lose quite a lot of downforce when you race like that. Also, Martin was using DRS to defend at times, so it was tricky.”
The Briton thinks the result was positive, but believes he could have got an even better result: “I started from 15th on the grid and was quite close to the podium in the end, even close to the winners if you look at the distance. I also had a lot of tyre degradation. I hope to have a better day tomorrow.”
Green was also critical with the state of the track, resurfaced earlier this year: “There shouldn’t be bumps on a track with a new tarmac. If you look, for instance, at Spielberg, it was like an ice rink, just perfect, not one bump. But here, especially at Turn 3 and then, when you go to up the hill to Turns 6 and 7, is even worse than before.”
The Team Rosberg driver is fifth in the standings with 97 points, 17 behind the new leader, team-mate René Rast.
