Jamie Green tops windy second practice at Zandvoort
Audi Motorsport dominated the second free practice session at Zandvoort, with Jamie Green taking the top spot ahead of fellow Audi drivers Loïc Duval and René Rast.
The track was dry, although with some wet patches after an overnight storm. Green clocked his best lap time with five minutes to go, setting a time of 1:28.065, a tenth faster than Duval, and over two-tenths ahead of Rast.
Reigning champion Marco Wittmann was the fastest of the BMW drivers in fourth, with Mattias Ekström, who led the session right until Green stole the top spot, ending up in fifth, just over half a second off the pace.
Gary Paffett was the best-placed Mercedes in sixth, followed by Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller. The Mercedes of Paul di Resta and Lucas Auer followed, with BMW’s Timo Glock completing the top ten.
After jumping out of his Audi RS 5 DTM, Green said: “Zandvoort has a new tarmac on the track, so it feels different to previous years. I’ve been just trying to figure out how to get the car set-up best for the new surface. It’s pretty bumpy in some places, more so than in the past, so we are trying to figure that one out. It’s very windy but the track was dry, so we had very good conditions to prepare the car for qualli, so so far so good.”
The qualifying session for Race 1 is scheduled for 11:40 CET.
